Hosea and Jesus: I will speak through the prophets and grant many visions; I will give parables through the prophets

Hosea and Jesus: I will speak through the prophets and grant many visions; I will give parables through the prophets Hosea and Jesus: I will speak through the prophets and grant many visions; I will give parables through the prophets

In the Book of Hosea we find many references to Jesus. When in the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Joseph flees with his family to Egypt in Matthew 2:13-18, the evangelist refers to a prophecy of Hosea: "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son" Hosea 11:1. After Herod's death, God would call Joseph to return to his country, fulfilling the prophecy.
Jesus taught the Kingdom of God, the dominion of God's perfections, through stories, allegories or parables, so Hosea can be attributed another oracle about Jesus: "I will speak through the prophets and grant many visions; I will give parables through the prophets" Hosea 12:10. The parables were one of the most creative ways that Jesus had to allude to that Kingdom of excellence that brings us closer to God.
The work of the prophets in the old testament was not only to be the sentinels of Israel: "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me" Ezekiel 33:7; the work of the prophets was also to maintain hope when the situation was already considered lost, therefore it is understandable that Hosea prophesied the arrival of someone, without saying exactly who this person would be, who would bring with him an indestructible and eternal kingdom.
It can be criticized that the prophecies of Hosea are very imprecise and general, but this is the nature of all prophecies, the prophecies only in very particular or exceptional cases can give us precise information, because the beatitude forbids the prophet, or who has a special knowledge of the future, to use the prophecy to change the future.
For Hosea, God is a God of love who deeply loves Israel, an idea that later influenced Jesus' thinking when he gave his disciples the commandment of love. Paul took up in his teachings in the epistles the idea of Hosea about the marriage union between God and his people. Hosea's thought profoundly influenced Christian thought.
