Philosophy is the science of the truth. Aristotle
Aristotle teaches us in his book Metaphysics that philosophy is the science of the truth, this definition of philosophy is very important, Philosophy in Greek means love for wisdom. And, why is this definition established by Aristotle important? Because the philosopher cannot be any person. We see writers every day who freely propose themselves as philosophers or spiritual leaders, but they are nothing more than sophists: "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy" Colossians 2:8.
The sophistry Plato explains to us, are systems of knowledge with the appearance of philosophy but they are not, many religions fall into the field of sophistry. Sophistry is about falsehood, not about truth. Sophistry is very close to heresy, the teaching of the error. Sophistry, in its development always has as its main target, emotional people, who are the most persons vulnerable to fallacious speeches because they are in an intermediate state between good and evil.
The philosopher as such is the wise man, the spiritual man, the man who reaches the plane of truth through a mystical act of inner illumination, the Gnosis. The Bible explains to us that there are three kinds of men, there is a spiritual hierarchy among human beings, the natural man in whom the body prevails, the rational man in whom the soul prevails, and the spiritual or wise man in whom the spirit prevails.
We see this difference more clearly in a dialogue about love between Jesus and his disciple Saint Peter: "Simon son of John, do you Agape me more than these?´ ´Yes, Lord,´ he said, ´you know that I Philia you.´" John 21:15. Agape is the love projected towards the whole creation of God, it is the love perfected by the nature of the good. Philia, on the other hand, is the love that is born from the pleasure of seeing ourselves reflected in the other, it is the love mixed with friendship and virtue. The perception of truth as a concept is not in Philia but in Agape. The man endowed with Agape, the love for the good, is the spiritual man or wise man, this is the man whom Plato calls "philosopher".
Philosophy as science can only be taught by those who have reached spiritual perfection, philosophy belongs only to the wise. This is the problem why philosophy is still an incomplete science today and why today it needs further development, together with other sciences such as ethics and politics.
