The path of Jesus: Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, John 14:21

The path of Jesus: Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, John 14:21. The path of Jesus: Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, John 14:21.

The commandments of Jesus are not precisely commandments, orders, or imperatives, the commandments are metaphors, the commandments of Jesus represent an ideal of spiritual perfection. The commandments of Jesus are a requirement to which we have to aspire with our works of piety (devotion, equanimity) and mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness): "´Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind´; and, ´Love your neighbor as yourself.´" Luke 10:27.
The commandment of love has equivalent expressions, which point us to the path of the Kingdom of Heaven, the progressive and uplifting path towards the enlightenment of consciousness: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful" Luke 6:36, "Be perfect, therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48, "Be holy, because I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16.
But these commandments that Jesus presents to us have something mysterious or secret, something profound that is not revealed to us immediately, but gradually; the kingdom of God is compared in the gospels with a hidden treasure or a pearl of great price. Jesus tells us something very special, he is more than an older brother to us, he is also our neighbor, so if we love God we also have to love him. Jesus tells us a fundamental truth about keeping the new commandments that replace the commandments of the old covenant: "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them." John 14:21.
This means that those who love(Agape) Jesus receive the spiritual gift of eternal life, that is, Jesus makes himself known, he manifests himself through this new life that he gives us. Knowing this new life is knowing the freedom of the spirit and leaving behind the slavery of sin that binds us to suffering. This is the blessing that Jesus gives us for his perfect love.
